The Las Vegas Raiders defensive end is entering his sixth NFL season and second with the Raiders, announced the news on Instagram, saying he wasn’t doing it for the attention but because he felt representation and visibility were important.
“I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that I’m gay,” Nassib said in his video message from his home in West Chester, Pennsylvania. “I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now, but I finally feel comfortable enough to get it off my chest.”
“I really have the best life. I got the best family, friends and job a guy can ask for. I’m a pretty private person, so I hope you guys know that I’m really not doing this for attention. I just think that representation and visibility are so important.”
Following his coming out, Nassib's No. 94 shirt was the top-selling football jersey on Monday and Tuesday across all Fanatics-owned sports apparel websites, the company said, while declining to disclose specifics on sales. The jersey retailed for $120 at NFLShop.com.

Nassib made nearly $23 million in his seven-year career, according to Over the Cap. It's safe to say he has saved plenty of that money now that his playing career is done.

FOXBORO -- Former Patriots running back Damien Harris announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday night. Harris is hanging up his cleats at just 27 years old. Despite retiring at such a young age, Harris had himself quite the career in football.
Despite saying he's feeling physically and mentally fit, Nassib said he chose to retire to focus on his company, Rayze, which he founded just before the last NFL season. The app enables users to give back to causes they are passionate about. "I feel like Rayze is kind of what I was meant to do," he said.
It reported that the decision to cut Nassib, who had an annual base salary of $7.75 million, was a financial one. Cyd Zeigler, a co-founder of Outsports, an LGBTQ sports site, agreed. “Carl had a big paycheck coming this year, and they just made a determination that they wanted to find somebody cheaper,” Zeigler said.
After a moving experience while volunteering with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019, Carl was inspired to build a mobile app where users could easily find ways to give back to causes they are passionate about. In July of 2022, Carl Nassib launched the first volunteer-based social media platform, Rayze.
