Literary Festival Schedule for Friday May 7th (2024)

Although this final week of the Tour is quieter, there will still be readings and poetry prompts, and a few special events over the week – but probably the most important daily happenings will be the LitFest Tours. With 21 Fairelands to visit, we still have some way to go, and from now on, there will be two Tours a day!

Today we will be visiting the Amethyst Rift, which was the base for the Children of Stories, and Líng xiāo lóng 灵霄龙, our beautiful home Faireland.

In addition, we will have a reading by Banshee Heartsong of her Songs of the Faire 2021, a sequel to her collection of poetry from last year’s Faire.

Did you know that you can join a special group for news of the Tours, and of the off-season Tours to various parts of the fantasy world within Second Life too? Look for the group called the Company of Faire Folk – that’s us!

For full details of today’s events, see below!

Milkwood Dash
6am – 6.30am
The beautiful setting in the Wandering Woods created by Kilik Lekvoda would be reason enough to join us for this event. But it’s also a chance for you to spend 15 minutes writing your own prose or poetry based on a writer’s prompt, and then share what you have created with your fellow authors.

Please note – around 6am, the Fairelands will restart. If that happens, we will go home for ten minutes and then head back!

Join us at Wandering Woods for the event.

May Poetry Prompt
8am – 9am
April was National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo), during which participating poets attempt to write a poem a day for the month of April. Well, we’re continuing it into the first week of May! Join us at High Winds Overlook in Líng xiāo lóng 灵霄龙 and get today’s poem done.

LitFest Tour No.17: Amethyst Rift
12:00noon – 1:00pm

The Amethyst Rift by Nix Marabena
The ancient but mysteriously preserved home of powerful magic users who vanished long ago, the Amethyst Rift is a city, or perhaps a temple complex, carved into the walls of a deep fissure in the rock at the convergence of several major ley lines. The magic there is so strong that it still flows in pulsing violet waves visible even to those without second sight. Explorers have wondered for centuries over its strange glass-like walkways and suspended monoliths, and many attempts have been made over the years to discover the fate of its builders, but no trace of them remains besides their empty constructions in the Rift. One of the more credible theories concerns the only structure in the Rift that is not whole – what appears to have been a massive, free-standing stone gate sits partially collapsed in a central square.

This Tour will be led by Aoife Lorefield, who will also supply the musical accompaniment.

Tours leave twice daily at 12 noon or 1pm and 5pm SLT from the Market in Líng Xiāo Village in Líng xiāo lóng 灵霄龙 to explore the Fairelands.

Songs of the Fairelands 2021 with Banshee Heartsong
3:00pm – 4:00pm

Flash poetry is comprised of brief poems that can be read in a single glance. Adding imagery often catches potential readers who would not read without something to catch their eye.

Songs of the Faire, a collection of flash poems, was written live during the first 9 days of the 2021 Fantasy Faire. Banshee Heartsong will talk about her interpretation of inspirations for flash poetry and share readings and images from the book. The Book will be on sale in kiosks in different locations around the Faire.

Banshee is a wandering poet who has written in Second Life for almost five years and in real life since she was 11. Her muses are many and in the past five years she has produced more than 1000 poems since she first found herself in these realms.

The person behind the keyboard holds an advanced degree in Writing Genre Fiction from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA, USA. There she concentrated in genre writing for fantasy, children’s fantasy, and rhyming picture books. She is mostly self-published. She’ll tell you this is to thwart having to edit for grammar and length.

LitFest Tour No.18: Líng xiāo lóng 灵霄龙
5:00pm – 6:00pm

Líng xiāo lóng 灵霄龙 by Fiona Fei
Hua Long Dian Jing, is a Chinese proverb meaning “painting a dragon, dotting its eyes.” The proverb comes from a story about an artist who painted a dragon who came to life as soon as the eyes have been dotted. The design of this region brings this proverb to reality, manifesting strokes of ink brush into a 3D world.

This Tour will be led by Saffia Widdershins; Musical accompaniment by Ktahdn Vesuvino

Tours leave twice daily at 12 noon or 1pm and 5pm SLT from the Market in Líng Xiāo Village in Líng xiāo lóng 灵霄龙 to explore the Fairelands.

LitFest Extra: Return to J’Adoube – with Sharni Azalee
7:00pm – 8:00pm

J’adoube by Sharni Azalee
“Life is like a game of chess. To win you have to make a move. Knowing which move to make comes with insight and knowledge, and by learning the lessons that are accumulated along the way. We become each and every piece within the game called life.” The quote from Allan Rufus describes an insight into J’adoube. Some believe it may have been where giants played, or a lost civilization was built to worship the game. From its cascading fountains and chess box stores, to the massive sunken chessboard in its center made of puzzle pieces, your imagination builds. Now it is your move to decide what J’adoube is to you.

This Tour will be led by Aoife Lorefield, who will also supply the musical accompaniment – with Sharni Azalee joining us to reveal some of the mysteries.

Tours leave twice daily at 12 noon or 1pm and 5pm SLT from the Market in Líng Xiāo Village in Líng xiāo lóng 灵霄龙 to explore the Fairelands.
