Are all NuTone fans the same size? ›

Broan-NuTone® fans come in different sizes. To make sure you get the correct grille/cover on the first try, we'll give you a list of compatible grilles/covers just by telling us what your current one looks like. Select the bathroom grille/cover that looks like your current one.

Whether you need a new wall bathroom exhaust fan or a ceiling bathroom exhaust fan, installing a bathroom fan is a project you can do yourself.

Replacing a fan with proper wiring or ductwork can take less than an hour, while wiring and duct upgrades may take a few hours depending on their complexity and accessibility. A completely new installation may take an entire day or longer.

If you don't have access to the fan through the attic, you'll have to cut the brackets from below. Use an oscillating saw or reciprocating saw to carefully cut the brackets. Avoid cutting electrical wires and expect to touch up the ceiling drywall with spackling later.

Reach behind the grille and squeeze the mounting springs to remove the grille. The model label is located in the corner closest to the outlet. Some fans may have the model stamped into the motor plate instead of a printed sticker label.

Most fans are rated from 50 to 110 CFM, but some models designed for large master bathrooms, rec rooms and home theaters can be rated even higher. Choose a fan that can ventilate at least 1 CFM per square foot of room. So, for an 80 square foot bathroom, select an 80 CFM fan.

Divide the number of cubic feet in your bathroom by the number of minutes in an hour (60). Multiply that number by the recommended number of air exchanges per hour (8). The result is the minimum cubic feet per minute (CFM) rating for your vent fan, which will be listed on the fan.

Most popular size is usually 120mm in modern PC cases, however, you will find other sizes such as 80mm, 92mm, 140mm, 200mm and various other configurations.
