Bread Halwa
This Easy Bread halwa is one thing which i wanted to try for very long time. I have never tasted this before, but i am sure it will taste good and similar to wheat halwa. Since it is Diwali i decided to give this a go and it turned out to be super yummy.
This recipe is very simple and basic. You just need a handful of ingredients which you might already have on hand. This halwa is so easy and it gives a good amount of halwa with just few slices of bread. So if you make a bigger batch, you can store this in fridge and whenever you want, you can heat it again in microwave or in a small pan and enjoy hot or warm. I like to make my wheat halwa, cornflour halwa, carrot halwa for sudden sweet cravings.
About Bread Halwa Recipe
Halwa is a popular Indian sweet made during Diwali occasions. Bread halwa is getting so popular these days. Specially it is served during marriage functions and special occasions.
Halwa is made with bread, ghee, sugar, milk and dried fruits and nuts. Traditionally bread pieces are fried in ghee separately. Sugar syrup is made until it reaches one string consistency. Syrup is poured over the fried bread along with crumbled khoya, milk powder or milkmaid. It is cooked until the halwa leaves the sides of the pan. Bread halwa is ready to serve in less than 30 minutes.
My version is more easy. Fried bread is cooked in milk, sugar is added and cooked till halwa consistency is reached.

Bread Halwa Ingredients
Bread - Use white bread slices for making this halwa. Brown bread can be used instead of white bread. Make sure you remove the crust out of the bread. The colour of the bread halwa is determined by the colour of the fried bread. So fry the bread in generous amount of ghee till golden brown and crispy.
Sugar - If you are using milkmaid when making bread halwa, add less sugar.
Milk - Full fat milk is added into fried bread. Bread is cooked in milk until it disintegrates and thickens.
Ghee - Bread should be fried till crispy in ghee which enhances the flavour.
Dried Fruits & Nuts - cashews and kishmish is common ingredient used in halwa. You can add any nuts as you prefer.
Cardamom Powder - optional can be skipped too.
